Health problems related with sugary drinks and possibles solutions

On the other hand, Michael Bloomberg proposed to tax cigarette in New York. According to the passage, “Cigarette Tax Increased to Keep the States Running” by Nicholas Confessore New York decided to tax cigarette because they wanted people to control the bad smoking habits that they had. (1) In addition, Confessor believes that by taxing cigarette, New York states could make more money to benefit “Health Care Program”, “Tobacco Cessation Program”, and Cancer Research Center in Buffalo, and some people could quit smoke. (2)
Moreover, in the passage “ A New Low for Cigarette Smoking” Nicholas Bakalar states that after the government imposed tax on cigarette, the percent of smokers was reduced from a 21 percent to 15 percent. Bakalar says that in 2005, “45.1 million people smoked in the country, but by 2015 36.5 million people smoked”. (1) In addition, Bakalar states that this reduction happened because of the tax strategy that the government used because the percent of smokers reduced significantly. (2)
Therefore, experts believe that one of the best solutions to control the consumption of sugary drinks is imposing tax on it. According to the passage, “W.H.O Urges Tax on Sugary Drinks to Fight Obesity” by Sabrina Tavernise taxing sugary drinks such as soda, fruit drinks, and energy drinks would reduce the consumption of it, and therefore it would reduce obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay. Tavernise believe that by taxing sugary drinks would also provide more benefits for the country. (A11)
Over many years, sugary drinks have been one of the major influences in causing obesity. Obesity has increased significantly over the past decade because of sugary drinks (Tish Margaret). (15) According to the journal “Obesity Childhood”, obesity is caused by consuming more calories than your body need. Therefore, sugary drinks are causing children to be overweight because the sugary drinks are high in calories, and the consumption of the sugary drinks among children are higher than the level of calories that they need per day. In addition, the consumption of healthy products such as milk and water are lower than the level of sugary drinks consumption. (17) The American Heart Association suggests that the consumption of fruits and vegetables are healthy for our bodies, and to contrast the obesity, but not in sugary drinks. Therefore, sugary drinks fruit should be reduce. (21)
