A very important topic that New Yorkers consistently face is the issues with high rents and not enough affordable housing. I'd like to research on this topic to explore on whether rentals are affordable and reasonable or not, and what is being done to improve the market so that anyone that wants to live in New York can do so comfortably.

New York City and Ethnic Diversity
I would like to talk about the ethnic diversity of New York City. New York City is famous for its ethnic diversity, manifesting itself in scores of communities representing virtually every nation on earth, each preserving its identity.Little Italy and China town is said to date back to the mid-19th century. African Americans from the South began to migrate to Harlem after 1910.

What're The Main Causes Of Juvenile Delinquency?
Many questions come to mind when you speak about Juvenile Delinquency. Such as what causes it? Where did it begin? What leads to it? Are there ways of escaping it?. I would like to discuss Juvenile delinquency in my research paper. I am sure i can find plenty of information regrading this topic. I will discuss how it effects our future and the many reasons why it occurs.
“14 Songs That Makes You Want to Visit New York “
New York City is a important place of diverse music in the world. It has been longtime the home of popular music such as Jazz, Rock, and the Blues, as well as classical and art music. It is the birthplace of Hip Hop, freestyle, doo wop,be-bop, disco, punk rock and new wave. It’s also the birthplace of salsa music the combination of cuban and Puerto Rican in the 1960s.
New York has been the number one music industry in the country since 20th century. From that time, a lot of companies and Organizations have set up headquarters in New York. Some cities in the world tried to claim the crown but to our ears the world capital of popular music has to be New York.
When you leave New York, walking on the street or going to nightclub , when you hear those music, close your eyes and picture our great city, chances are you will wish you were here. For Jonathan Zeller, there are 14 songs he thinks do the most popular and get people into the New York groove,” Rockaway Beach,Root Down, New York Groove, Take the A train, Shattered,Supermodel, Schuyler Sisters, Only Living Boy in New York,42nd Street,Doin the Things That We Want To,Protect Ya Neck, Autumn in New York,Sci-Fi Wasabi, Miami 2017”.

How did the Great Migration changed New York?
The movement of rural African-Americans from the South to the manufacturing cities of the North in the early 20th century is a topic that caught my attention. As an immigrant myself I have my personal reasons that lead me to move to America/New York. I want to do research to see if I can relate my reasons of moving to New York and to the rural African Americans who moved from the South to the North.
Outsourcing
I would like to use outsourcing for my project. I think there's plenty of pros and cons that I can talk about and explain on this project. One big question to bring up is... How come there isn't more manufacturing companies here in New York? I believe we receive more products made in China than China receives from us, and what we are doing or have been doing is boosting more their economy than ours. Another issue is, the cheap material that china uses contains lead which is crucial for our health, not to mention that Chinese products are not durable or dependable.
Is Stop And Frisk Racial Profiling?
I would like to do my research paper on Stop and Frisk. The Stop and Frisk program is a New York City Police Department's practice of temporarily detaining, questioning and at times searching civilians on the street for weapons and other contraband. This topic interests me because of the racial profiling that is associated with it. Even though, the Police Department's records show that 9 out of 10 people that are stopped and frisked are innocent, African American and Latino young men have been, and continue to be the sole targets of this program.
I would like to do my
research about special education process and how is improving with the years
and how serious the teacher take each case or is just for the pay. Also the
process they using for the children is the right or they make some mistakes in
the school or is the department of education who is making this failures. What
is the right way to proceed and if is effective to the better of the children
and their family. What a family can expect when they have this type of cases in
the school and how secure is it.
Is gentrification distorting neighborhoods?
Is gentrification distorting neighborhoods?
I would like to do my research project on gentrification and how it’s affecting people in the lower and middle class areas around New York City.gentrification is the process of renovating and improving a district, primarily urban areas so it fits the want and needs of the social class above them. This topic interests me mainly because my area is going through the changes of gentrification and it’s forcing people to lose their jobs and their homes. I feel there’s a way both parties can benefit from the improvements in neighborhoods if it’s brought upon a different way. There’s ways to better an area without destroying the lives of the people who live in that area and I want to present how this can be brought about.

Primary School in the Bronx
I would like to do a research about primary schools in
the Bronx to know which are the best public school. Moreover, I would like to
know the most common problem between teachers, students and parents in the Bronx
public primary schools. If something bad happen with any student, I would like
to know where parents can go to complain and get effective results. I’m curious
about this topic’s information because I have a daughter who is two years old,
and soon she will need a good primary school. Also, I’m very worry about how
primary schools work in the Bronx because my sister in low told me that her
daughter who is in the second grade almost fall from the second floor because a
boy from six grade pushed her down. My sister in low went to complain to the
teacher, and the teacher made fun of her complain, and she said that she was in
the front, and she could not see what was happening in the back. This is something
that I consider serious because something bad could happen to niece and that
teacher just laughed about it. My sister in low told me that she is not the
only mother complaining about how bad is that school. Also, she told me that a teacher
was suspended from that school for reasons I still do not know, but the problem
is that now the school’s principal and teachers cover each one mistakes making the
situation even worst. For all mention before, it is why I want to do a research
about primary schools in the Bronx.
Will Puerto Rico Be The Same Again?
For my research paper, i would like to talk about the island of Puerto Rico after hurricane maria left it in complete devastation. This is an interesting topic to me because i got to experience this natural disaster in person, and witnessed how Puerto Rico's infrastructure was completely destroyed. This topic is very controversial, as many believe the president of the united states isn't doing enough to help the island, as opposed to Texas and Florida who received help right away after being hit by hurricanes of less magnitude.
Long Love Orchestra

Long Love Orchestra
Music in New York City is diverse. There are many different genres to choose to listen to. One particular form of music, that I have just become interested in this year is, Orchestral music. A typical orchestra is made up of more than ninety musicians, who play together on a variety of instruments, which usually come from all instrument families brass, percussion, strings, and woodwinds. I am usually drawn to one popular artist such as Beyonce, or Kendrick Lamar, who are both top inspiring artist. This one particular night in New York City, which turned into many, I fell in love with the orchestra.
It was an evening in the city, and I was not feeling too well. I was walking down Lincoln Center Plaza, and decided to stop in Lincoln Center to see the schedules of they're upcoming events. One of the staff ladies said to me, "There is a free Orchestral performance tonight, you should come." Not feeling to well, I stayed and accepted the offer. The minute I stepped in Paul Recital Hall, which is a small theater in Lincoln Center, where the performance was held, my entire mood changed. Me feeling down turned into anxious. I was eager to see and hear what the Orchestra was going to play
Before I got to the center, I was feeling sad, and thinking negatively. I was mourning the loss of loved ones from years back and couldn't understand why.
As I entered the theater, I realized I was the first person in the theater, and was able to choose to sit wherever I wanted. I chose center stage, but not too close to the front, about 10 min later the theater started to fill. Everyone was settled, and the orchestra and conductors walked out and prepared for their performance. During these musical performances, it is complete silence, even a cough feels uncomfortable. Some of the works that were performed were Benjamin Britten (1913-1976), and Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), focusing on the classical and romantic eras of music. The conductors of these pieces, made it easier for me to connect with the music, and feel the energy they put into conducting. One piece in particular was Benjamin Brittens work based on "Rondeau" from Henry Purcell's incidental music. When Julliard lab orchestra played his work, it brought a sense of peace to my thoughts, and brought tears to my eyes for those who were important that I have lost in the past. Most importantly, my spirit became happier, and I was excited to spread the word of the peace and positivity that orchestras bring to your soul.
These performance changed my feelings and thoughts from negative to positive, just by sitting and listening to a certain melody. At times, during the performance I closed my eyes and let the music take me away in spirit. I always invite and tell my friends to go to orchestras, expressing how they make me feel. I've been to about five performances since than, and loved all of them. The way the conductors conducted the orchestra, and the works of these great composers, it gave me a forever spiritual and passionate connection with both the orchestra, and overall classical and romantic style music.

Closing U.S Embassy in Havana Cuba “Under Review”

Closing U.S Embassy in Havana Cuba “Under
Review”
New York
Times reported on Secretary of State Rex W Tillerson statement, that closing
the newly reopened American Embassy in Havana was under evaluation. All this
was a result of news of 21 American workers from the Embassy located in Havana Cuba,
had to be brought home due to several complaints of illnesses. According to The American
Foreign Service Association
they are seeing
illnesses such as, brain swelling, extensive headaches and hearing loss.
It was
noted that victims told officials they recall walking into specific rooms or
certain locations of the Embassy and experienced powerful beams of sound. This
allegation now has officials under the assumption that these illnesses may be
the cause of a sonic attack or a surveillance operation gone wrong.
No direct accusation
was made toward the Cuban President, however, the obvious blame of not taking
the necessary precautions to protect the American people while working on Cuban
grounds was evident. Much to American officials’ surprise, President Castro did
not return the reaction that they expected by being defensive about the
countries irresponsibility. Quite the contrary he was just as concerned and irate
on the thought of who could have carried out this act, in return the Cubans
offered FBI agents to enter Havana and do a complete investigative research.
On the
topic of closing the Embassy, I think this decision should be a temporary one
until a full extensive investigation is carried out for proof of the
speculations is found. This investigation should cover who might have done this
crime if at all this was an attack on the Embassy, checking surrounding
countries that as this might have benefited more from the USA and Cuba being
Allies than friends. All things should be carefully thought through before they
are put into action as this decision might create chaos in the relationship we
are trying to recreate between us and Cuba.

Amazing piece of art in my back yard

Having lived in the Bronx for many years and a few minutes from the New York Botanical Gardens, i felt ashamed that there is such an amazing place to visit and see such beautiful sights yet i failed to notice and pay attention. I cant remember how many times especially in the summer that i pointed out the direction to take to the Botanical gardens and the Bronx zoo which is right by each other to folks getting of the train at West Farms Square and East Tremont Avenue. Many times and i used to wonder what was so important there that so many visit on a daily basis, well i wondered no more because i took myself and a couple of friends to go visit a few months ago.
At the entrance, it was packed and we realized there were different packages for students, families and those who visit often during various exhibitions and tours, we got our tickets and went in, you had the choice of getting into one of those trams or walk on foot, we chose the latter and regretted it after about 25 minutes when the trams came whizzing by us, the New York Botanical Gardens is vast. After viewing many beautiful flowers and flower bushes, i mostly took pictures, i saw plants i had never seen before and it helped a lot that every group of plant and flowers were labeled with the name and a bit of background information, i would mostly ask other people who obviously had knowledge about the plants, i had run in into these older couple from Westchester county who come there religiously and were exotic flowers and plants lovers, i asked them many questions and it was obvious how much they enjoyed sharing their knowledge with us. I knew that at the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the famous Water Lily Pools hold amazing exhibitions, on that day the Lily Pool had so many water plants with intense colors and fragrance, there were what they called prehistoric looking leaves ( large and oval to round shapes) and tropical water lilies. These are all put on displays by different nature artists and often sponsored by a company or philanthropists .
At the Enid Haupt Conservatory, a particular water lily with so much history and a mouthful name behind it is called Nymphea which has been in cultivation for over 100 years and has been the most popular of water garden flower since the late 1800s. I found out also that this particular flower which was the focus of the display that day was grown by the famous nature artist Claude Monet in his personal garden and was a basis for some of his famous artwork.
It took me a while to realize that plant displays and even its cultivation whether in a private or Botanical Gardens were a form of art.
Recently, another world renowned artist called Dale Chihuly has been holding exhibition at the New York Botanical Gardens which i managed to attend one and it was good experience, there was a showcase of an artwork which is on display at the Conservatory Courtyards Pool which showed so many display of colors which in turn reflected more colors on the surface of the pool. Many more nature art pieces were put through out the gardens which in my opinion took it from ordinary gardens to amazing ones, what stuck with me in all these experiences is how color in it self is a form of art and art pieces that from a first glance looks like an alien piece of nothing transforms the surrounding it is placed on.
I must say i went to the New York Botanical Gardens not knowing what to expect, perhaps except for a few strange plants and flowers, it changed my whole outlook and when put on display amidst nature art pieces , it becomes an education and a wonderful life experience.

Frida Kahlo painting
Prisilla Bueno
september 22, 2017
Throughout the history of humanity,
Art has played an important role in our societies. Art is defined as “something that is created
with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important
ideas or feelings: works created by artists: paintings, sculptures, etc. “There
are quite a few art periods and to enumerate just a few: Medieval, Renaissance,
Baroque, Romanticism, Academic, Impressionism, Surrealism (from 1920) …etc.
During my visit at MOMA, I have admired some beautiful paintings from different
artists, different periods. One of the paintings from Frida Kahlo caught my
attention “My Grandparents, My Parents, and I (Family Tree). By researching let’s see how Frida’s painting
reflects the art period that she lived, the ideas and feelings that she was
expressing, an artist of the Surrealism art period.
Frida was born in Mexico; her father
was a German photographer who migrated to Mexico and married her mother
Matilde. At the age of 6, she had polio
but she recovered from the illness that left her slightly crippled. Later, she was involved in a car accident
that left her infertile. She was a very
intelligent, she became a political activist and her oil paintings contributed
to her fame. In her art work, her
emotions, her pain, her opposition can be felt. Some considered her art as
controversial. By reading the label of
the painting mentioned above, one can understand why the artist choose to
express her views, her emotions through some non-verbal manner in favor of
imagery: “While Kahlo celebrated Mexican culture by invoking its traditions in
her art and wearing elaborate traditional attire, this painting is as much a
tribute to her European and Jewish heritage. On the right are her German-born
Jewish father and his parents, symbolized by the sea, and on the left her
Mexican mother and her parents, symbolized by the land and a faintly rendered
map of Mexico that appears above her grandparents’ heads. Kahlo was fluent in
German and closely monitored the rise of Nazism in Europe. She made this
painting shortly after Hitler passed the Nuremberg laws, forbidding interracial
marriage. While the painting adopts the format of genealogical charts used by
the Nazis to advocate racial purity, Kahlo uses it subversively to affirm her
mixed origins”
The dramatic life of Frida is
reflected on all her art work, her illness, her handicap, her emotions all
contributed to some of the provocative images that she had produced through her
paintings. Some of her works were more
challenging than others; Critics even characterized some of them as
controversial. The surrealism art period
was a movement where Artists employed fantasy and dream imagery, “artists
created works in a variety of Medias that exposed their inner minds in
eccentric, symbolic ways, uncovering anxieties and treating them analytically
through visual means”. By analyzing the
period that the artist lived in, one can easily understand how harsh life was
for a woman, handicapped, married, divorced then remarried. In that period society wanted a woman to be
pretty, submissive and a mother. She had
to face this constant gender struggle; she chooses to overcome these obstacles
by using Art through her paintings and expressing her inner thoughts.
Kahlo also used her Art to bring
attention to the mistreatment of women and to aid the feminist movement. “She
taught painting to youth across Mexico, affecting hundreds of lives with her
mentorship. In her final days she left the hospital, despite doctors’ orders,
to participate in a political protest. She was in a wheelchair, having lost a
leg to gangrene, sickly thin, with colorful yarn tied into her hair. The things
she saw and experienced led to the dramatic works that flowed from her brush”.
In my thought I feel she express their feelings, their
emotions, their happiness, their sorrow either through paintings or sculptures
… Researchers have found evidence that humans evolved to be moved by art. Frida
Kahlo is no exception, she used Art to promote awareness using different
techniques and manners that were appropriate during that moment and conform to
the art movement “Surrealism”. As humans,
our emotions, our passions, our feelings can guide us and can help us make a
difference. Art can be considered as a form of communication to denounce what
is unjust, to show acceptance, to expose the beauty of our world.

Music and dancing are some of the things
that give us life and entertainment. It's like
a universal language that we can use to communicate with each other or tell different
sorts of stories. They aid us to create
unique memories that can last up to a lifetime. For example, when I was a kid, I went to see
the Christmas Spectacular show at Midtown, Manhattan. It was my first time ever going to a show and
became one of the greatest memory of my life.
When I was around 9 years old, my aunt
took me to go see the famous Christmas Spectacular show featuring the Rockettes
at Radio City Music Hall. Once we
arrived there, the lines were so packed that
it reached at least two blocks up from the showcase entrance. However, we both managed to get inside and to
our seats before the show starts. The show
began when the lights directed towards the live orchestra, playing a mixture of
Christmas songs. After their
introduction, the curtain rises and the lights came on for the Rockettes, dress
up as sexy reindeers, and tap-dancing wonderfully
on stage. There were also different
scenes included in the show such as the Nutcracker
play, the toy soldiers, ice skaters, the dancing Santas, and the Nativity (the birth of Jesus Christ story).
Every scene in the show had brought a lot
of life in not only us, but also the audiences.
There was a lot of laughter and applauds. The show had be around for so many decades
that “From the moment they first appeared in 1925, the
Rockettes have been American icons…”(rockettes.com). They had come a long way being the main attraction,
from their sexy Christmas costumes, to their dance routines in which synchronize with the music and of course their famous
high kicks. Even today, they also have
another showcase that started “In June 2016, the Rockettes performed
on the Great Stage to celebrate New York City in The New York Spectacular…” (rockettes.com).
I hoped one day I get
to go back to see the show again. In
addition, I would probably see the new showcase, “The New York City”, they have
currently going on as well. I would love
to take my nieces, nephews and maybe one day, my own children to see the
Rockettes because it is one of the fondest memory to have as a kid.

My Unforgettable Experience at the Metropolitan Museum
When I was in the CUNY Language Immersion Program I
had the opportunity to visit some museums in New York City. One of them was the
Metropolitan Museum of Art located at 1000 Fifth Ave New York, NY. The Metropolitan
is a very huge Museum that has collected arts from all over the world (The
Met). It has a big variety of exhibition for all type of visitors (The Met). It
is a museum that satisfy everyone’s expectations. The entire family can go
there because it has something special and educative for everyone (The Met). It
was the first museum that totally caught my attention since I did not like
museum so much. That evening I spent in the Met was full of different kind of
emotions.
As a student, my mission there was to pretend that I
was travel around the world in 90 minutes. Indeed, I really felt like a person
who has an international visa a can travel around the world. I went from
country to country in each continent however I could not travel as much as I
wanted because the time was not enough. Me and my classmate ran exciting from
one gallery to the other one traying to learn about the different art each
country or continent has, and everything we saw was amazing. I wanted to spend
more time staring at the sculptures, decorations and other interesting
artefacts that can be find in the Met.
Most of the things I saw were weird. Thus, they were
interesting and made me feel curious. I found that
everything there has a unique message, and I could feel inside myself the
mystery behind of most of them. Besides following the meaning of the artworks,
it was the first time I have seen so many treasures in just one place. I wished
I could have some of them to become rich. I saw many things made with gold,
emeralds and diamonds. Moreover, there were some paintings in the second floor
that I could connect to myself because they reminded me my beautiful
countryside in the Dominican Republic. There were about mountains, flowers,
rivers and birds. Contemplating those paintings about nature made me feel so relaxed.
I used to think
that museums were boring, but the Metropolitan Museum changed my mind about
that. Whenever I visit a museum, I find the special mission of them. The experience
I had at the Metropolitan Museum will stay with me forever because it was the
first museum that made me feel like a little child who just wanted to have fun.
I was so happy, exciting, curious, and impressed by the wonderful things in the
Metropolitan Museum.

Music Therapy
Music Therapy
New
York City is full of diversity. Growing up I was exposed to many different
genres of music. My family always had a passion for the sounds, beats and
lyrics that came along with the formation of music. Starting with stories
dating as far back as the 1940’s when my grandmother and grandfather first met.
I can recall as a child my mother telling me about my grandmother coming to New
York City from Puerto Rico as a young lady in the 40's and her adapting to
the ways of life here. She was a seamstress for the veterans during the day and
would go out to the New York City discos with her girlfriends every weekend.
This is where she met my grandfather who was a WWII veteran. People would stare
in awe when they would hit the dance floor, dancing to their native music which
was Salsa. My grandmother loved listening to the beats and lyrics of every
song, it took her mind of off many sad moments that she had in her life. Both
of her parents died when she was approximately 9 months old in Puerto Rico,
leaving her to be raised by her older sister, and later having to travel by
boat to New York City where she had to start a new life and leave everything
behind. She was 1 of 7 children. I remember her sharing with me stories of
pain. Listening to certain songs would bring her back to a period of time that
she would escape from the reality that she held on to. I can remember as a
little girl passing her bedroom and seeing the tears roll down the side of her
cheeks and asking her why she was crying. She would reply in Spanish telling me
that she missed her parents and Puerto Rico, all while listening to her
favorite artist Celia Cruz (a Cuban Salsa artist). This was her story on how
music impacted her life in New York.
Those
stories were passed on from generation to generation. Like my grandmother my
mother loved music just as much, her and my dad would walk the streets of
Manhattan in the late in 1970’s listening to their favorite band “The Bee
Gees.” I can remember as a child my mother listening to their song “How Deep Is
Your Love”, this song brought her to the memories of her and my dad dating and
having picnics in Central Park, completely and totally in love with my father.
The look in her eyes made me want that when I got older. I wanted to experience
that type of love that she felt.
Now
at the age of 31, I myself have experienced many high and lows in my life and
when a particular song plays it’s like it transports me back to those moments,
feelings and certain events that took place. My sweet sixteen, the birth of my
daughter along with the songs that I would sing to her nightly to put her to
sleep are some of my fondest memories. Even to meeting my partner that I am
with today. He and I both share a passion and love for music. My daughter is
the one now hearing my stories on how music has impacted my life and from the
looks of it I’m sure she will be doing the same with her children.
Music has always
played a significant role in the way our family expresses and releases their
emotions. It doesn't matter the occasion, there is always music playing in the
house. Some may use medicine or
talk therapy to cure or help them cope with certain situations in life, but in
my case I believe that music helps to heal or bring me to a peaceful state of
mind.
According to the article “Does Music Affect Your Mood?”, written by Suzanne
Boothby researchers from
Durham University in the United Kingdom states that “even sad music brings most
listeners pleasure and comfort”. According to a recent research that
was published in the Journal of Consumer Research, they found that
people often tend to prefer sad music when they are going through a “deep
interpersonal loss, like the end of a relationship”. In a different study
done in 2013 “The Journal
of Positive Psychology” found that people who listened to upbeat music could
improve their moods and boost their happiness in just two weeks.” This supports
my views on what music means to me, Music is my therapy.

Your Typical Day With The Art You Love
Living in New York you see art or hear music everywhere you go whether it's a restaurant, in the subway or just walking on the sidewalk. I personally have a lot of experience with both arts but music influenced my life more then art has. For me, music is more of a culture. It's what I listened to, what my parents listened to and so on. My favorite genre of music is hip hop. Me listening to hip hop helps me start my day. It gets me pumped to go out and do what I have to do to achieve my goals. Though I say it pumps me up, it also calms me down. After a long day of class and work I lay back and listen to relaxing music to unwind from your typical day living in New York.
Personally, i feel i need music wherever i go. Music helps me get from point A to point B quickly and productively. I feel as if music distracts me from the real world and blanks out my surroundings but helps me focus on the task at hand. A better way to describe my feeling is music gives me tunnel vision. Studies show that music helps stimulate the brain. It takes every part of the brain to listen to music and in a sense music helps us heal. Music also builds excitement. Not everyone has a favorite artist but majority of people do and once hearing that the artist is about to drop a new album or song makes your blood rush. The excitement and anticipation is through the roof and it gives you a reason to look forward to more.
I listen to music daily so my personal New York experience with music is is not a one time thing, it's more of a lifestyle. Though i don't make any music, listening helps me see the artist's point of view. Music puts me in the artist shoes and helps me see what they see and feel how they feel. Some music even relates to my everyday life growing up in Harlem with violence and and what was done to overcome those obstacles. Music helps paint a clear picture of what went on and what's still going on in the world today and reflects on all the people still going through it. Music is an art that I will forever be grateful of.

Music & Art
There are
many things that can influence someone’s feelings when they’re seen or heard. There
are some pieces of art and music that may make you feel a certain type of way
or even bring back some memories you may hold. Listening to music is usually a
great way for most people to escape their problems or whatever issue they may
be stressing over. I for certain love to listen to music whenever I am
stressing. It doesn’t have to any particular genre, just whatever can help me
ease away from the stress for a little while.
Everyone goes
for a stroll sometimes, whether it’s to buy something, relief your mind of
whatever you’re thinking about, or just to take a walk and admire a view. I have
often taken a train ride into the city, to relief my mind of whatever small
issues I may be going through. There is no better feeling for myself, then
entering a small Hispanic restaurant on the lower east side and hearing some
bachata. Bachata is a genre that is very important to the culture of Dominican’s.
It originated in Dominican Republic in the 1960’s and “derided as a music
of the lower classes, chiefly because of its bawdy lyrics, it was played at
parties and seedy bar-brothels”
(Kugel). Back in the Dominican Republic, bachata is listened to by everyone and
basically played throughout the entire day at local stores, bodegas,
restaurants, bars and just even down the street on a neighbor’s porch.
For
me, moments like this bring me many memories, from when my mom would take me to
the country where she was born and raised in; the Dominican Republic. She would
take me every summer, almost like a tradition. The music grew on me and it has
never left me. Therefore taking a walk or a train ride into the city and
hearing some bachata when I’m going through a rough patch, it always seems to
calm me and put me in a better place; where I can relive some great childhood
memories. Bachata will always hold a great place in my heart and in my ears.

The Metropolitan Museum
I went to visit the Metropolitan Museum. One of the art that took my attention was Stela of Mentuwoser by Clare Gibson. I choose this artwork because I really like it. This artwork is from the Middle Kingdom Period, since 1944 B.C. This is located in the East Wall at Metropolitan Museum (Gallery102). This art work is attached to the wall. It is limestone, paint. This art is big with a dimension of H. 104.3 cm; we can observe clearly the picture. Also has a nice pattern around the sides. This art is a realistic presentation of a man. We can see that it is made of rectangle stone, giving honors an official named Mentuwose. He is sitting on a chair, in this image we can see that he is holding a piece of folded linen in his hand. In front of him has a table with food that indicated that he has abundance in food for him and his family. Foods like bread, the head of an animal, onion in a basket and others. As we can see in the picture he looks like a powerful man who has the control over others. The museum scripture says that he was steward and accountant in Senworret. Also he was administrator and supervisor of all kinds of animals. He was known as a good man. On his right is located his son and daughter, his daughter is sitting on the floor and she is holding something in her hands. Above the children we can see the picture of his father. This means that they are offering together formula in three lines. On top we can see symbols and writing closely tied and linked to spiritual belief for the Egyptians. The figure looks good with a bright color that attracts the attention of people, it has textures is not plain. I couldn’t understand what it says, because it is written in the language of the Egyptians. The colors are striking. I saw that the chair is yellow and the letters, the color of the people were brown. Also the picture has a big part with the color cream. The clothes that they used are as skirts.Something that I can say is that this type of work is similar to others that I had seen in the Museum before. I relate this artwork with the art Ti Watching a Hippopotamus that I saw before because they are similar like in the color and the cloths. Both are ancient Egypt painted in limestone relief. In both the main figure is the man. Both arts show the hardworking of the man. They were not created at the same era, but I saw that in both were focusing on farming, animals, families, death and god. They believe in the world of the living and dead spirit, their afterlife. Many of the beautiful images come from ancient Egypt, painted murals.
This artwork affect me in a positive way, because it helps to express who we are deep down. A lot of people have trouble expressing themselves, but those that are expose to art and culture from early age, and who are influenced, encouraged and inspired to create art on their own, often find that they're better able to express themselves. No matter how different they may be from those around them. With these artwork I have learned more about the world, both in terms on how it was and how it is today, as well as how it can be.
