Legally
one cannot be in the United States without at least a Visa, which is a pass
that allows an individual to legally enter the country for a certain amount of
time and/or aspecific
reason. When a foreigner enters the country, they know that the consequence of
getting caught with no papers is to get deported. According to Alex Nowrasteh,
that reason alone makes illegal immigrants “less prone” to committing crimes,
since they do not want to be sent back. Alex
Nowrasteh’s (2015) research explained. Numerous studies also conclude that the high immigration rate of the 1990 significantly contributed to the precipitous crime decline of that
decade. According to this theory, immigrants are less crime prone and
have positive spillover effects like aiding in community redevelopment,
rebuilding of local civil society in formerly decaying urban cores, and
contributing to greater economic prosperity through pushing natives up the
skills spectrum through complementary task specialization.” (Pg. 5). This explanation
can directly reference back to when it is mentioned that illegal immigrants
accept most jobs offered to them, despite the pay. These jobs include anything
involved with agriculture, or even general labor work, which can actually help
the cities where they are working in, within the states. Nowrasteh (2015)
concluded his research, with the idea that in the end, crimes committed by
native-born citizens are higher than those of foreign born, making their crime
rates high as well. (Pg. 6)
