Why prek is benefical for children?

Preschool was initially thought to be a pass time for children with very little emphasis on social and educational development.  There are some who will still feel this way about preschool but as the time passed preschool has been proven to be very beneficial for children.  In 2010 New York Board of Education implemented a new way of learning called Common Core.  According to the CCSSI, Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy.  Its goal is to outline what students should know and be able to do by the end of each grade.  Common Core, requires children to think outside the box and explain how they got their answers.  Due to the extreme change in school standards, it is best to start preparing children early.  The school’s curriculum has changed.  Today’s kindergarten is yesterdays’ first grade causing preschool to have to revamp their curriculum now teaching kindergarten material.  Although, preschool isn’t pass or fail and is also optional, children who have entered kindergarten after preschool have shown emotional stability over children who didn’t attend preschool, because they already know what to expect.  It is important to each your child at a young age how to socialize with children their age.  Preschool places them in an environment where they can socialize with children their age without supervision of their parents.  There are some children who tend to hold back their personality while around their parents.  Preschool allows them to come out of their shell and create independence.  They will learn responsibility and empathy for their peers.  Pew Trusts, conducted a research that showed children who attend preschool are less likely to be held back a grade and more likely to graduate from high school.  I conducted an interview with Ms. Sonia Garcia, a first grade teacher at CS 77  Elementary school in the Bronx.  I asked Ms. Garcia if she thought preschool was beneficial? she said the following "Preschool in todays generation is beneficial. As educators we focus on teaching our students independence, social skills, cognitive skills, we allow them to express their curiosity and preform many activities that help their motor skills.  We also start to introduce mathematics and vocabulary. Our goal is to prepare them for kindergarten. Preschool in my opinion is the foundation of education for all children".  Children are not the only people that reap the benefits of preschool.

(Second paragraph will discuss the benefits parents get from preschool
