Closing U.S Embassy in Havana Cuba “Under
Review”
New York
Times reported on Secretary of State Rex W Tillerson statement, that closing
the newly reopened American Embassy in Havana was under evaluation. All this
was a result of news of 21 American workers from the Embassy located in Havana Cuba,
had to be brought home due to several complaints of illnesses. According to The American
Foreign Service Association
they are seeing
illnesses such as, brain swelling, extensive headaches and hearing loss.
It was
noted that victims told officials they recall walking into specific rooms or
certain locations of the Embassy and experienced powerful beams of sound. This
allegation now has officials under the assumption that these illnesses may be
the cause of a sonic attack or a surveillance operation gone wrong.
No direct accusation
was made toward the Cuban President, however, the obvious blame of not taking
the necessary precautions to protect the American people while working on Cuban
grounds was evident. Much to American officials’ surprise, President Castro did
not return the reaction that they expected by being defensive about the
countries irresponsibility. Quite the contrary he was just as concerned and irate
on the thought of who could have carried out this act, in return the Cubans
offered FBI agents to enter Havana and do a complete investigative research.
On the
topic of closing the Embassy, I think this decision should be a temporary one
until a full extensive investigation is carried out for proof of the
speculations is found. This investigation should cover who might have done this
crime if at all this was an attack on the Embassy, checking surrounding
countries that as this might have benefited more from the USA and Cuba being
Allies than friends. All things should be carefully thought through before they
are put into action as this decision might create chaos in the relationship we
are trying to recreate between us and Cuba.
